Agents are responsible for presenting their clients and promoting their career success. The job involves looking after the interests of artists, creating and protecting the image that is relevant at any given time. The working environment of agents can be quite varied. Agents most often work with performing artists involved in fields such as music, drama and film, but they can also work for graphic artists and athletes, for example.

As an agent, you are in considerable contact with publishers, agencies, copyright associations and booking offices, in addition to which there can be considerable travel, for example around event planning and contracting.

Competence requirements

Agents need to have organizational skills as well as interest and knowledge of their client’s field of endeavour. It is important to be good at working with others, in addition to which knowledge of computer processing, finance and accounting are desirable traits to have as an agent.

Study

There is no special training for agents in the Icelandic school system, but this can be studied in schools abroad.
