Physicists study the properties, changes, and interactions of matter and energy. In their work, physics is applied in various ways in industry, in laboratories and in the healthcare system, for example. It is also common for physicists to teach and perform administrative duties, the latter often in collaboration with engineers and other technicians, as the subjects often call for interdisciplinary solutions.
Physicists often specialize in areas such as atomic physics, nuclear physics, optics, quantum mechanics, string theory, astrophysics, computer physics, thermodynamics, statistical physics and elementary particle physics.
